Shifting Focus Strategy - Money

What is Guaranteed?

Strategy #4 is Money. Employment has never been guaranteed. Job volatility has always been around. There are times when our economy does well and then there are times when it does poorly. When we’re in a good place, you make money, pay bills, and make tiny bits of progress toward their big financial goals. But it’s never perfect nor will it ever. Do you have a plan for when things change drastically?

Right now we're seeing a lot of problems in the job industry. There's job loss or job furlough with people not sure if they're going to have a job in the future.

And then there's job vulnerability, because many jobs are at risk of being shut down or canceled. All kinds of companies and institutions are struggling to promise a paycheck for their employees because they don't know what the future holds.

Virtual is the New Normal

It's really neat that some institutions like our schools have been able to move to a virtual setting. That's also dangerous because it requires fewer people to run something digitally, right? It's good for the education of the kids, but bad for the educators and other people that are involved in it. Think about the people that run the school, like the janitorial staff, the cafeteria staff, and all those other people. If you're not there in person, they don't really have a job. So there's a lot of vulnerability in jobs right now.

Working Until Retirement

There's also a lot of overworked employees right now, like police officers, medical and health care professionals, and even some of the restaurant staff like the ones that do the delivery services like InstaCart, UberEats.

I’m sure they’re overworked. I'm also sure they're happy because finding a job and finding steady income right now can be really challenging. We were already told that if we haven't figured out a way to make money in our sleep, that we're going to end up working until we die. D.I.E. And that's actually very true.

If you stop and think about the amount of money that you have to have in savings and other monies to retire. It’s becoming more and more astronomical and more and more unrealistic. For some of us it will feel like it's just not going to happen.

The cost of living continues to go up. We're just having to make more money because the cost of living and everything else gets inflated. So we have to find a way to make money in our sleep or work until we die. What are we going to do about that?

Working From Home

People are transitioning awesomely from working outside the home to working at home doing their same job remotely. It's come at a much faster pace than ever before. I remember in 2008, I was working from home and it was a new thing. My eldest daughter was a baby at the time and we were featured on the local news because I had built an online business. I was helping people find to not scams to work from home and it was so unheard of then. And now, 12 years later it's the thing right?

As people are transitioning to working from home there's many digital and virtual services that are popping up. There's all kinds of things (like Facebook ads) popping up to help people start online businesses and moving services online like teaching platforms.

It’s Never too Late to Start Something New

There's been a lot of LMS that's called learning management software systems popping up. There's new people that are training you on how to start a business, how to grow business, how to change your business, and transitioning from being in person to digital. It's incredibly cool to see and you need to get involved okay?

This is the part where I say don't just accept that you have to work until you die. Don't just accept that your paycheck is vulnerable. Don't accept that you're overworked and don't accept a furlough thinking that when my job comes back, I'll have more money.

Do something about it now!

If ever there was a sign that you should start a business, it's now and if ever there was a sign that you should learn how to do some tech stuff or build things online, that time is now. I'm not suggesting you throw thousands of dollars into it because you can start a business for like $13.99 (the cost of your domain).

Getting Started Costs Less Than You Think

You can literally start a business for $50-$250. That's a very low entrance fee to start a business, especially now. As you grow you will have to get more professional, get a license and LLC, etc. But that's not the first step you need to take right now. These are the questions you should be asking yourself.

Are you setting yourself up to be protected here and now?

Are you protected for whatever happens with this virus?

Do you have a secondary income?

Do you have a third stream of income?

I believe everybody should have seven streams of income. Our family is working on our third and fourth ones right now. Because you never know what's going to happen. I'm not even halfway through what I expect to live. I'm not even in my i'm over the hill stage yet. I have lots and lots of time to build these residual income streams (and so do you).

Multiple Income Streams

There are some that you legitimately make money while you're sleeping. They're not scams either. They're not a get rich quick schemes and they're not trading and brokering or any of those kinds of volatile, gamble-like schemes, but legal kinds of income.

There are some very wholesome, mainstream and simple things you can do from home, online with just an hour a day. I really cannot stress enough that now's the time to look into that.

I'm wanting you to consider now the opportunity to learn about starting your own business and starting your own thing that you're in control of. This economic situation was not bad for my family financially. We’ve been blessed throughout the whole thing because I've been building an online business and I’ve just put a little bit into my business every day for all those years. When the crisis occurred nothing bad happened to my business.

Building a business doesn't mean you create a business and it's successful only when it replaces your current income. That’s not true about business. Business can be a car payment, it can bring you in a car payment. Business could bring you in the cost of sending your kids to a camp. It could just cover the cost of groceries. It could just be $150 a month or something nice for yourself. Having your own business is like a nest egg. It's residual income, it's income that you're not counting on. It's there to buffer everything that comes and goes in your life and when you continue to do it for years you will probably be able to replace your income but only if you stick with it.

The Solution

I’ve stuck with this since 2008 and I have effectively replaced a full time six figure income. I did not do that overnight and it took a lot of hard work. But everything I needed was on the internet. I just had to go study, practice and learn.

I'm now an awesome mentor. If you want to work with me, just know I'm just going to say I love helping people get started and pointing you in the right direction. I've worked with a lot of people and coaches and I've taken a lot of courses because you have to study this craft.

I'm going to leave you with this one thing. In order to earn the residual income that our family brings in right - you’d need to have $4,500,000 in the bank at a one percent earnings.

That's how much it would take to save money to draw the monthly paycheck that we draw every month from our residual income business. I'm not talking about my husband's full time job. I'm also not talking about a full time job, because I do not have a full time job. I work from home when I feel like it. So Crunchy SuperMoms, it does take a while.

So start now.

Start right now.

I would love to hear what your ideas are. I've had several people reach out to tell me that they're thinking about a podcast, a blog about or creating a course. Those are fabulous ideas. It's so inexpensive to start a business and remember that you're not going to blow up overnight. But if you chip away at it a little bit at a time, every single day, you're going to reach so many people and it will eventually turn into something amazing. And if not then you didn't stick with it. The only reason that you will fail is if you quit.
