CSMPristinePristine:  Chicken, or eggs, from free range chickens raised on bugs and worms that they forage and vegetables scraps.

  • Free access to the outdoors and rotated on pasture daily
  • Feed created by the farmer without soy
  • Feed consists of a protein (often peas), calcium (source like crab shells), and grain that is organic/GMO free.
  • Meat birds slaughtered and processed on the farm or a trusted processing facility to avoid contact with any factory raised poultry.  Farm processing  eliminates any possibility of a processor mixing up the meat and returning to the farmer chicken that is not their own.
  • Baby chickens should be either born on the farm or purchased from a local hatchery instead of shipped through the mail.  This is not only less traumatic for the birds, but eliminates the potential for the chicks being given feed that has antibiotics.

Clean: Free roaming chickens on pasture given feed that is Non-GMO and antibiotic free (currently hormones are not allowed in any chicken feed so there is no need to worry about this toxin in chickens).

  • It is important to make sure that the birds are not simply “testing” antibiotic free, but instead given NO antibiotics ever.  Often a farm will stop antibiotic use before testing at slaughter and the birds can be sold as antibiotic free.

Avoid:  Conventional, feed raised chicken kept in small cages with no access to the outdoors.
