Is Thrive Market Worth It?

healthy eating

Food spending should equate to anywhere between 10-18% of your total income according to “experts”. Staying in this range and eating high quality, whole foods takes a bit of work but it is possible when you use competitively priced food sources like Thrive Market. Let me show what we buy from Thrive Market that helps my family eat healthy on a budget.

High Food Standards

Regardless of your food lifestyle (vegetarian, Paleo, hardcore fruitarian, etc), your food standards should be high. Organic labeling is not the absolute best food choice in all situations. You have to go a little further and look at the labels too. There are different levels of organic-ness that are hard to distinguish on labels. You might be surprised to find that buying a mass-produced organic brand of eggs provides no added health benefits over buying a non-organic, truly free range, grass fed brand for less. Thus, why are you paying more money for fewer benefits? I don’t pay for labels. My family has high standards for eating healthy on a budget because we believe there are benefits to avoiding unnecessary additives in our diet and obtaining our nutrients from food, not supplements. With all that being said, my one goal is to buy food that is as close to nature as I can find. We do adopt the “80-20” rule for eating healthy on a budget and try not to obsess over food choices when it is out of our control. Life does enter seasons where we just need easier food options. However, my 20% of “off diet” choices are still extremely high-quality thanks to Thrive Market.

My Thrive Market Experience

I’ve been a member of Thrive Market since they opened their doors. I was in love with them after my first order arrived. Since then, their inventory options have grown abundantly. There are several other online stores that have incredible selections of items that my family buys but I find they also have a lot of lower quality items mixed in. I am just not interested in shopping for my really raw, organic cashews and finding non-organic, mainstream brands alongside them. This is distracting to me and just one of the reasons I find Thrive Market to be superior. There are very few items on Thrive Market that I would never consider buying and that says a lot! I like scrolling through new natural food products to see what is new and I love that I can trust that Thrive Market has thoroughly researched the item before adding it to their inventory.

Eat Healthy On a Budget

Thrive Market prices are 25-50% off the retail price. Sometimes this is the same as or just a little bit less than a store like Amazon. Other times, it is the most significant discount you can find anywhere on the web. Unlike Amazon, I can’t be sure of the inventory turnover so I can never tell how fresh the food is coming from Amazon. There is no doubt the inventory turns over quickly at Thrive because some of the best items go out of stock periodically. This is sometimes disappointing when I am shopping but it is also reassuring.

Do a Trial of Thrive Market

The only way to find out if Thrive Market is a good fit for YOUR family is to try it. I recommend giving it a hard test drive to see if you can eat healthy on a budget. The best part about Thrive is your free trial begins once you place your first order. After that, you get 30 days to shop until you will be asked to join for $59.95 for the year. Any order over $49 is shipped for free. Bookmark this post as I will update it regularly with the items we buy regularly! I have compared the size of the item with Thrive Market’s price and the next lowest price I can find online. This first comparison chart includes a bunch of snack foods as we were preparing for travel. Sign up for updates or bookmark this page to any other Thrive Market Comparison charts I create.
